25 years ago - 1984

A painting by Towanda's Maggi Frawley of a Broadway poster done using an original painting and hand-quilted technique will be displayed in the lobby of the "Producer's Circle" in midtown Manhattan.

Stray Haven's 17th annual Christmas party attracted around 600 visitors.

Athens Brownies and Cadettes made foil-covered ornaments for the Athens Borough tree, provided by the Athens Chamber of Commerce.

50 years ago - 1959

At the annual tree-lighting ceremony at the Sylvania North Towanda plant, the Sylvania Men's Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Florence Place, will present a half-hour of Christmas music.

Under the direction of Dr. William C. Beck, a surgeon's glove tester has been developed at the Robert Packer Hospital for use in the operating room.

At the Towanda Valley High School, guidance director Miss Gladys Pipher took a group of girls interested in nursing to the Binghamton City Hospital for an open tea.

75 years ago - 1934

Celebrating his birthday today is Richard Hileman, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hileman of Dushore and star forward on Harrington's basketball team.

Mr. and Mrs. George Rogers Sr. are returning to their home in Litchfield after living in Nichols for several years. George Rogers Jr. and his family, who have been living in their home, have moved to a home recently purchased at Osborne Hill.

2007 - A bus collides with a train in northern India, killing at least 16 people, including nine children on their way to school.

2008 - Voters in Turkmenistan cast ballots in a parliamentary election, the first since the death of dictator Saparmurat Niyazov in late 2006.
