50 years ago - 1959
At the Towanda Valley High School Kandie Kane Ball, Beverly Watkins was crowned Kandie Kane Queen.
Also at Towanda Valley High School, William Hay's 10th grade industrial arts class is working on a project which involves furniture repair. The boys brought old pieces of furniture from their homes for repair.
At their December meeting, the Canton Lions Club heard a talk on his native country given by Azher Ansari of Hyderabad, India.

Albert M. Baker, well-known Towanda business man, was informed that he has been re-appointed to the station of the Grand Master of the First Veil of the Grand Holy Royal Arch Chapter of Pennsylvania.

Playwright Dale Wasserman, who'd written the book for the Tony-winning musical "Man of La Mancha," died in Paradise Valley, Ariz., at age 94.
