Flames enveloped a large double garage at Bishop Fuel Company on Cayuga Street, Sayre, yesterday afternoon, demolishing the structure which had housed trucks for the company business and a full maintenance section.
Dr. Lester Friedlander, head inspection veterinarian at Taylor Packing Company in Wyalusing, traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to receive an award from the USDA for his participation in the USDA veterinarian training program, which he has been a member of for three years.
The Towanda Scholarship Challenge team beat Sayre by 60 points with a final score of 100-160 at yesterday's competition.

It may come as somewhat of a shock to the residents of South Waverly, Athens Township and the Town and County of Chemung, but according to information on file in Albany, these areas fall within the Waverly Village limits. This information was presented by Village Attorney William Donnelly at the Village Board meeting last night.
Celebrating his birthday today is John Spentzas, proprietor of the Community Grill in Towanda.
The Wyalusing Valley Joint School Board met at the high school recently. Ivan Waltman, Albany Township, was elected president and took office immediately.
75 years ago - 1938
Towanda High School's girls' rifle team, consisting of Marjorie Shores, Helen Lintern, Genevieve Fairchild, Esther Allen and Joan Law, recently defeated the boys' team in shoot on the Court Street range.
Celebrating her 77th birthday today is Mrs. G.C. Besley of Columbia Cross Roads, who was born the year that the Civil War began, arriving as a valentine to her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. S.S. VanNoy of West Burlington.
Bernard C. Wolfe, president of the First National Bank of Towanda, at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association held at the Americus Hotel in Allentown recently, was elected vice-chairman of Group No. 3, which comprises 12 counties in Northeastern Pa.
