On Feb. 19, 1942, during World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which authorized the U.S. military to exclude people from designated areas. (The order was used to relocate and intern American residents of Japanese ancestry, a majority of whom were native-born U.S. citizens.)

Robert Fauver, who served as deputy warden of the county jail before his recent appointment as acting warden, was given the commissioners' nod to become the new warden yesterday.
In a highly unusual series of special board meetings, the Northeast Bradford school board is reviewing, aloud, name-by-name, the entire list of district residents in an effort to update the occupational tax assessments, and hopefully generate some sorely-needed additional revenue.
The winners of the Pack 6 Cub Scout Pinewood Derby were Scott Flanagan in first place, Josh Sparrow in second place and Scott Bump in third place.
50 years ago - 1962
Mrs. Richard Stephenson of Olive Street, Towanda, received her United States Citizenship recently at Naturalization Court held in Scranton. She came to the U.S. from Germany.
More than 100 people enjoyed the annual banquet given by the Towanda Ambulance Association for drivers and the nurses of Memorial Hospital and their guests held at the American Legion home recently.
A capacity crowd heard the Region II state band concert presented by the Pennsylvania Music Educations Association in the Troy High School over the weekend.

Morley Maryott, one of this community's better known and most active young Masons, has been appointed vice president of the Masonic Clubs in the state of Pennsylvania.
County Superintendent J. Andrew Morrow and Assistant Superintendent Norman E. Aten will leave by automobile this afternoon for New Orleans where they will attend the annual meeting of the National Association of School Superintendents.
Tonight will be the annual Bradford County Speaking Contest. Ten contestants, five boys and five girls, selected Feb. 13 at elimination trials in Towanda, will compete in the contest.
