25 years ago - 1987

The first Fun Flower Contest was held this week at the Bradford County Library.

What may have been an especially bright "falling star" flashing across the night sky over this region recently caused some minor concern. One observer in the Towanda area thought the fireball fell into Wysox and notified police. No reports of missing planes, wreckage, etc., surfaced, giving strength to the theory that the fireball was a meteor.

Dr. Thomas D. Jagger is pleased to announce the opening of his office for the general practice of optometry with a specialty in contact lenses at 150 Broad St. in Waverly.

50 years ago - 1962

Celebrating his birthday today is Randolph Grace of Sugar Run and Florida, retired mail carrier and former commander of Towanda Legion Post No. 42.

A strange animal has been seen lurking in some of the fields about Liberty Corners. Some of those who have seen it say it resembles a coyote.

Five years ago: A Marine CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter was shot down by insurgents northwest of Baghdad, killing all seven people on board. The Food and Drug Administration approved alli, a diet pill that can be bought without a prescription.

One year ago: AOL Inc. announced the $315 million purchase of The Huffington Post website.
