Permission to construct a batting cage by the Canton Little League Association on school property was granted by the Canton School Board at their meeting last night.

The Athens Bulldogs won three quarters of their District IV, Class AA basketball consolation game last night against Middleburg. However, the one quarter that went the way of the Middies was enough to propel them to a 68-62 victory over Jim Young and company.

50 years ago - 1963

The base station of the Bradford County police radio network has been established at the county jail in Towanda, the office being located in a portion of the newly remodeled section.

Phyllis Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Wright, Canton, won the speaking contest sponsored by Grade 12, academic English class recently.

Last week Mrs. Edgar Sabin and Mrs. David Turner selected two representatives for Towanda High School for the speaking contest to be held this week. They are Sharon Fairchild, who will speak about the Peace Corps, and Tom Palumbo, who will speak about Cuba as a threat to the United States.

75 years ago - 1938

The newly organized Republican Club of Towanda Borough completed plans at a meeting last night for an Easter dance to be held April 20 at the SCI hall.

Jackie Shay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shay, reports that he saw a robin yesterday morning. So far as is known, this is the first robin seen in Towanda this season, and the first day of spring is still 10 days off.

John VanHorn, Chrysler and Plymouth dealer in Troy, has leased the former Ernest Joralemon garage on Center Street and expects to move his business there April 1.
