Mary Kay Schrader, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schrader of Sayre, has been named the "Rose of Tralee," the queen of the 1985 Syracuse St. Patrick's Parade.
Chad Chenot from Towanda, a sophomore history major at The College of Wooster, is participating in the 1985 Wooster Scot Band, an 85-member band in which he plays the bagpipes.
Langan's Pharmacy of Sayre is celebrating the grand opening of its North Elmer Avenue location today.
50 years ago - 1960
The new Monroe-Franklin Elementary Joint School at Powell was formally dedicated last night with so many trying to attend that part of the crowd had to stand in the hall.
At the regular meeting of the Tri-County Joint Operating Board, Scott Griswold of Canton was elected a teacher in the Tri-County District for the 1960-1961 school year and Miss Lida Thomas of Kingston was elected to fill the position on the music faculty vacated by Edward Sims.
A national survey shows that there are 123 cars in Bradford County per 100 households, ranking the county high in the United States in automobile population.
75 years ago - 1935
Charts prepared by the Department of Public Instruction at Harrisburg indicated that the schools of Bradford County set an interesting professional standard for teachers in as much as the records show that 99 percent of the teachers employed are credited with two or more years of preparation for teaching and 33.8 percent of all teachers employed are college graduates.
When Walter E. Dyer of Wysox was tearing down an old kitchen attached to his home a few days ago, he found a 3-foot ruler, which had been placed in a crevice years ago. The ruler was given away by the D.T. Evans store, a local firm of some time ago.
Two calves were born to a cow on the farm of A.E. Devine at Stevensville. This is the third pair of twins for this same cow.
