Athens wrestlers Eric Knolles and Grady Forbes, plus Wyalusing's Gary Otis and Wellsboro's Jeff Bailey are just one victory from advancing to next week's PIAA Wrestling Championships in Hershey.

The annual third and fourth grade spelling bee for Athens Area School District students was held recently. First place in the third grade went to Cole Harrigan. First place in the fourth grade went to Derek Gage.

Students from North Rome Christian School will soon join the Great Balloon Race on March 16. Students will launch 43 helium-filled balloons as part of the nation-wide Writing Pals Balloon Contest sponsored by Weekly Reader, the classroom newspaper.

50 years ago - 1963

Celebrating his birthday today is Edward D. Strickland of Wysox - golfer, farmer, machinery dealer.

With the Armstrong Music House moving to its new location at 503 Main St., Towanda in the First Ward, another modern and attractive establishment has been added to that portion of Towanda's business section.

Stuart Wrisley was appointed as the Burlington Township civil defense director.

75 years ago - 1938

Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Chaffee of East Towanda were married 37 years ago tomorrow. Mr. and Mrs. Chaffee have been custodians of the courthouse for the past 10 years but now operate a lunch room and gas station in East Towanda.

Three-hundred seventy-four acres of land were acquired in Bradford County by the Pennsylvania Game Commission during the month of February. The property acquired will be added to the already large holdings of the state in this county for hunting land.

Miss Olga Brecher, who until recently has been association with the Esther Mae Herman beauty parlor, has resigned her position and plans soon to go into business for herself. She has engaged quarters just north of the Kinney Hotel and they are new being remodeled and redecorated.
