Construction workers were recently busy repairing Patton's General Store in Athens, which was partly destroyed by a large fire in January.
Towanda Area School District Superintendent of Schools Thomas W. Holland reports he has received several calls inquiring if initiation of a full-day kindergarten program is being contemplated for the coming school year. However, the district, he said, plans to continue with its present half-day kindergarten program.

Well over 200 youngsters turned out for the recent Towanda Aerie of Eagles Easter Egg Hunt. Lawrence Ackley and Kim Foster were the finders of the golden eggs, worth $2.50 each.
Certificates of award were presented to four Canton High School "Girls of the Year" recently. They were Caroline Trippe, Rosemary Acresti, Jane Mott and Phyllis Wright.
75 years ago - 1938
Edward M. Dailey Jr. of Dushore has been appointed Sullivan County chairman for the Kennedy for Governor campaign, and has opened offices in the Scouten block.
Celebrating his birthday today is Floyd Robert Walborn, who is a senior at Towanda High School and has been neither absent nor tardy for 10 years.
C.M. Bender, who has been in the insurance business in Towanda for almost three decades, announced yesterday that he has taken into partnership Ralph S. Park, the change being effective today.

One year ago: Five people were killed by a tornado in Woodward, Okla. Taliban insurgents struck the heart of the Afghan capital and three eastern cities. North Korea's new leader, Kim Jong Un, gave his first public speech since taking power, portraying himself as a strong military chief unafraid of foreign powers. Passengers and crew of the cruise ship MS Balmoral said prayers at the spot in the North Atlantic where the Titanic had sunk 100 years earlier.
