The application of Ronald Storch of Wetona for a position on the Towanda Borough Police Force has been accepted by the Borough Council and he will start his new duties on May 1.
Towanda High School's baseball team opened its Roosevelt Trail League season over the weekend in flashy style, beating the Canton High Warriors at Canton 16-7.
Celebrating his birthday today is Edward J. Bloomer of the State Police detail at Towanda, who is also a capable high school basketball and baseball official.

Merchants of Towanda at a general meeting of the Towanda Chamber of Commerce, last night voted unanimously in favor of closing the stores in Towanda at 5 p.m. during the months of May through September.
In an effort to bring about better business conditions in the borough, Sayre businessmen are now engaged in perfecting plans to replace the defunct Chamber of Commerce with an active organization.
The Bentley Creek school, in which Carlyle Spencer and Mrs. Elton Jelliff are the teachers, will continue for two more weeks.
