Six of the 10 candidates running for Northeast Bradford school director faced an audience of about 100 teachers and residents recently to answer questions relative to their qualifications for the job.
Demolition of the Sayre Public Library is expected to begin next week, the first step in the construction of the new library, to be constructed on the empty lot next to the present library, on the corner of Elmer and Packer avenues in Sayre.
The new traffic signal installed at the main intersection in Troy Borough was turned on at the beginning of this week. A "right-turn only" lane was added, and parking has been prohibited by an ordinance from Center Street to Exchange Street at the intersection.

Mrs. Carolyn Danforth Davis has opened a music studio at 107 Main St., Towanda. Classes for children and adults will be held Monday through Saturday.
George M. West of Sayre was elected treasurer of the Robert Packer Hospital by the hospital board at a recent meeting.
A public hearing on the proposed construction of a section of the Southern Tier Expressway in the Nichols area will be conducted May 2 in the Nichols Elementary School auditorium.

Jobey Campbell of Ulster brought to the Review office yesterday a pair of boots that were made in Towanda in 1887, being 50 years old at the present time.

Five years ago: A British judge sentenced five al-Qaida-linked men, all British citizens, to life in prison for plotting to attack London targets, including a nightclub, power plants and shopping mall with bombs. An Israeli government probe faulted Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for what it called "very severe failures" in Israel's war with Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. Actor Tom Poston died in Los Angeles at age 85.
One year ago: A Libyan official said Moammar Gadhafi had escaped a NATO missile strike in Tripoli that killed one of his sons and three young grandchildren. (There have been conflicting accounts about whether Gadhafi's relatives even died in the airstrike.) In Moscow, Japan's Miki Ando defeated Olympic champion Kim Yu-na of South Korea at the world figure skating championships originally scheduled for Japan, which had been devastated by an earthquake and tsunami.
