On June 12, 1942, Anne Frank, a German-born Jewish girl living in Amsterdam, received a diary for her 13th birthday; in it, she wrote, "I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to with anyone, and I hope you will provide much support and comfort." (Less than a month later, Anne and her family went into hiding from the Nazis.)

Nine Bradford County firefighters recently participated in the National Fire Academy held in Emmitsburg, Md.

The Towanda Main Street Manager Project board yesterday chose two winners in the logo and slogan contest that was conducted through the Towanda Area Schools and St. Agnes parochial school. The $50 prize will be shared by Towanda students Josell Crandall and Beverly McGowen.

50 years ago - 1962

The Towanda Valley Kindergarten-Grade 12 Jointure, a subject of discussion since 1950, took a big step forward when six more districts in the area voted in favor of the suggested articles of agreement for the jointure in meetings last night.

Fifty-four FFA students and teachers from schools in Bradford-Sullivan counties will attend the State FFA Activities Week of the Pennsylvania State University over the next three days.

The Towanda Rotary Club yesterday voted unanimously to sponsor an exchange student in Towanda during the next school term under the Rotary Exchange Student Program.

75 years ago - 1937

An extensive highway improvement program was started this week in Bradford County when approximately 84 workers began construction of new highways in Sheshequin Township near Ulster under a WPA project.

The county commissioners have appointed Mrs. Fanny Keyser tax collector for Monroe Borough to succeed the late David. J. Armstrong.

Carl Woznicki and John Keeler, 1937 graduates of Wyalusing High School, are on a hitchhike sight-seeing trip to California. They left two weeks ago and have been heard from as far west as Wichita, Kan.
