On July 10, 1962, AT&T's Telstar 1 communications satellite, capable of relaying television signals and telephone calls, was launched by NASA from Cape Canaveral. President John F. Kennedy signed the All-Channel Receiver Act, which required that new TV sets be capable of receiving UHF (ultra-high frequency) channels 14 through 83 in addition to VHF (very high frequency) channels 2 through 13.

The Towanda Public Library is to be repainted and redecorated for the first time in many years. The dark green walls are to be replaced with walls of a lighter hue, possibly cream or ivory, at least something more restful for the eyes.

A German glider alighted late yesterday afternoon on Ross Bacon's landing field in Hornbrook. The glider was one of a number entered in the National Soaring Meet at Elmira, and flew from Harris Hill.

Last week the children and grandchildren of Mr. an Mrs. Sterling Wickwire gathered at their Macedonia home in recognition of their 64th wedding anniversary.
