Rob Wolfe struck gold recently. The Sayre javelin thrower, competing under the TAW Express Track Club banner, put together a toss of 166 feet to lead the local club's contingent of competitors in the Amateur Athletic Union-USA Region II Championships.

At a recent joint meeting of the Athens and Sayre Rotary clubs, Bill Bienek, district governor of Rotary District 741, presided, installing officers for the 1987-88 year. The president for the Athens Rotary is Robert Friant Sr., and the president for the Sayre Rotary is Sid Freedman.

More than 3,000 citizens of Nichols have signed petitions asking the state to take over the Smithboro toll bridge, it was announced yesterday. The toll bridge spans the Susquehanna between Smithboro and Nichols. It is the only approach to Nichols from Route 17.

Carl Woznicki, one of Wyalusing's local transcontinental hitch-hikers, returned to his home recently. He was preceded about three days by his companion, John Keeler. They were gone 30 days and covered an estimated 8,500 miles, passing through 17 states.
