On July 28, 1932, federal troops acting at the order of President Herbert Hoover forcibly dispersed the so-called "Bonus Army" of World War I veterans who had gathered by the thousands in Washington to demand payments they weren't scheduled to receive until 1945.

Piece by piece a part of Sayre's history started coming down yesterday as workers from Triple V Construction began tearing down the foot bridge which used to lead pedestrians from the downtown section to the East side.

Celebrating her birthday today is Mrs. William M. Rosenfield of Towanda, the former Muriel Carner of Athens. She is president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Towanda, a director in the Children's Aid Society and one of the most popular of the county seat's women.
More than 2,000 grangers are expected to attend the Bradford County Pomona picnic to be held on the SCI grounds in two days, at which time National Master Louis J. Taber will give the featured address.
There were more than 125 members of the Canton IOOF and Rebekah lodges and their families present at a basket picnic held at the Harvey Bond grove recently in honor of Mr. Bond, the oldest member of the Canton lodge.
