75 years ago - 1935
School bells rang again yesterday for the majority of Bradford County children, about 10,300 of them reporting for the opening of the fall term. About 1,700 more, most of them in the western part of the county where there is a delay because of the Troy Fair, will return to school next Monday.
Eddie Loop of Waverly, an employee in Towanda of the American Store, showed himself to be some sprinter on Labor Day. In the 50-yard dash contest in Towanda, he won by five yards or better and finished second in the 100-yard dash.
Mary Merwin Phelps, author of "Kate Chase, Dominent Daughter," who has been spending the summer at the old Tracy mansion in Standing Stone as the guest of Mrs. Phoebe Stevens Turner, left today for Philadelphia to begin research for her next book.
