On Jan. 17, 1950, the Great Brink's Robbery took place as seven masked men held up a Brink's garage in Boston, stealing $1.2 million in cash and $1.5 million in checks and money orders. (Although the entire eleven-member gang was later caught, only part of the loot was recovered.)

25 years ago - 1985

The Area Agency on Aging is now offering adult day care services in the area.

A spirited Panther comeback gave Northeast a 59-53 win against the SRU Tigers and gave coach Jim Davis his 300th win.

Thomas J. Maloney has been named Agriculture and 4-H Agent for Bradford County Extension Service.

75 years ago - 1935

New Albany Post No. 384 of the VFW of the U.S. was instituted in New Albany by District Commander A.E. Dennis.

The assembly program at the chapel of the Canton High School consisted of a mock wedding, written by a group of students of the high school. The bride was played by Nedra Hickok and the groom was played by Roy Landon.

R.E. Frantz of Camptown was elected president of the Merchants Association of Bradford and Wyoming Counties.

Salvage crews hoisted a downed US Airways jetliner from the Hudson River, three days after a dramatic water landing survived by everyone on board.
