Williams Oil is the apparent low bidder for fuel bid by the Bradford County Commissioners. Bids for regular grade gasoline and diesel fuel to be delivered to the manor; fuel oil for the Fourth Street Annex and district justice office in Wysox; kerosene for the district office in Wysox and regular grade, no-lead and diesel fuel to be purchased at the pump for vehicles in county use were opened at the weekly business meeting of the board.
Among the items on Towanda Borough Council's police committee agenda tonight is discussion of a proposal to alleviate parking congestion in Towanda's downtown area.
Testimony is continuing in a civil trial in Bradford County Court which pertains to a ditch cave-in in Wyalusing in the area where that borough's new sewer system was then under construction. Wayne L. Dieffenbach, a former employee of the borough's water company, is seeking damages through this case, which was lodged against Harold R. Tripp, the contractor involved in the sewer construction project.

There were 150 present at the sub-district 24-A Dairymen's League meeting held with the Athens local at the East Athens Community Hall on Monday evening, June 20.
Charles McKeon of Ulster was unanimously elected general chairman of all crafts included in the Association of Maintenance of Equipment composed of Lehigh Valley Railroad Company employees at the biennial convention meeting of the association held in the Lehigh Valley assembly hall this morning.
A program of readings and music will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the North Towanda M. E. Church. Mrs. Eva Sluyter, who is well known for her talent in music and elocution, will give two groups of readings which will include a rendition of the "Happy Prince." She will be assisted at the piano by the Rev. Russell Scudder.

(Police said the suspected gunman, Edwin Ramos, mistook the Bolognas for rival gang members; Ramos was later sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison without possibility of parole after being convicted of three counts of first-degree murder.) Zimbabwe's opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai (SVAHNG'-ur-eye), withdrew from a presidential runoff against Robert Mugabe. Acerbic standup comedian and satirist George Carlin died in Santa, Monica, Calif., at age 71. Comedian Dody Goodman died in Englewood, N.J., at age 93.
One year ago: Ex-Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted by a jury in Bellefonte, Pa., on 45 counts of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years. (Sandusky is appealing a 30- to 60-year state prison sentence.) Monsignor William Lynn, a Roman Catholic church official in Philadelphia, was convicted of child endangerment but acquitted of conspiracy in a groundbreaking clergy-abuse trial, becoming the first U.S. church official convicted of a crime for mishandling abuse claims. (Lynn was sentenced to three to six years in prison.) Heavily armed Taliban gunmen stormed a lakeside hotel near Kabul, killing 18 people during a 12-hour rampage.
