25 years ago - 1988

The newly formed Bradford-Sullivan County American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) chapter met for the first time recently to discuss objectives for the chapter and to explain what benefits senior citizens can receive from the AARP. Officers for the organization were elected in May at the organizational meeting. Officers include Homer Hicks, president; Teresa Hunt, vice-president; Peg Lattimer, secretary and Dick Snell, treasurer. The chapter meets once a month and its board of directors will meet every six months.

The New Albany Firemen's Days festivities were highlighted Saturday by a parade and the choosing of the New Albany Miss Princess. Gina Holland was crowned as the 1988 New Albany Princess.

Airman Patsy J. Earle, daughter of June L. Earle of Roy RD 3 and John Earl of 41 Lycoming St., Canton, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. She is a 19893 graduate of Troy Area High School.

Mayor Howard Ellsworth of York Avenue and Borough Manager George Snell of North Main Street have been attending the 52 annual convention of the State Association of Borough in Philadelphia.

The Wysox Midget League last night saw the Yellow Caps tax another loss, bowing to the Green Caps 15-12. Jeff Root, Tim Clark, Tom Blanchard and Tom Hollenback each snared a high fly for the Yellows.

75 years ago - 1938

On Friday last, Alec Eddy found a carrier pigeon perched on a window sill of his apartment over Harden Brother's Store. On one of the legs is a rubber band bearing the letters "PR."
