The Bradford County Commissioners yesterday approved the hiring of a new chief public defender and Commissioner Chairman William McNett revealed the board is completing negotiations for attorney Casey Castro, the current public defender, to step down to the assistant's post. Theodore E. Hinkley, now assistant district attorney in Franklin County, was given the commissioners' unanimous nod to begin the duties of chief public defender in this county beginning Monday. McNett described him as being "a mature individual" and he is "experienced in the legal profession."
State Rep. J. Scott Chadwick addressed Sister Anne's first grade class yesterday at the Epiphany Elementary school in Sayre. Although these citizens won't be able to vote until the year 2000, Chadwick addressed the students about the upcoming November election and the election process.
Yesterday afternoon, the Bradford County Regional Arts Council (BCRAC) officially gook over the operations of the Keystone Theatre. A ceremony was held at the theatre where Pat Zalinski, president of the BCRAC and the group's attorney, Leslie Wizelman, accepted the signed deed from Beverly and Walter Buffinton, along with their attorney, Frank Innes.

Harrison's Cleaners took three games from Bailey's Buss Terminal in the men's bowling league match played at McCreackens last night, while North Towanda took two out of three from Rice's Dairy. Bob Brennan rolled a 202 game and William Burgess a 215 for North Towanda while Wally Harris scored a 192 for the bus terminal.
Miss Mary Dannemann and Fowler Tuton were weekend guests in Brooklyn N.Y. of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wallace. Mrs. Wallace is formerly Miss Peggy Fitzgerald of Towanda.
