Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital expands to improve patient access
SAYRE - Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is once again expanding to meet the growing demand for health care services in the region. On Tuesday, May 28, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., the public is invited to tour the new 16-bed inpatient unit on 7Main at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.
This new 16-bed inpatient unit and the new observation unit that opened in March of this year will improve patient access and decrease congestion in the Emergency Department.
The 16-bed unit will be used for the care of medical and surgical patients, including those being treated for illnesses such as pneumonia, congestive heart failure and hypertension. General surgery patients will also recover on this new unit. The unit has all private rooms and includes a bariatric room, a negative pressure room for infection control and lift-assist equipment in some of the rooms to prevent employee injury.
One of the benefits of the unit is that it will have an assigned hospitalist, a physician that cares for patients while hospitalized. Having a hospitalist on-site will improve access and streamline provider communication.
The open house will include tours, refreshments and an opportunity to meet the staff that will work on the new unit.
