TROY - Authorities are investigating an unsuccessful hacking attempt in the Troy Area School District, according to district business administrator Traci Gilliland.

At the end of last week, an unknown individual or individuals tried to hack a computer in the district business office, she said.

The attempt to steal funds was unsuccessful, however, she said.

As a precaution and to make them aware, district employees were notified of the incident, she noted.

Some of the employees were notified by letters and some in a meeting.

The district is undertaking steps "to further increase security," according to Gilliland.

Gilliland declined to specify which authorities were involved in the investigation.
