Hickey resigns from Sayre council Borough accepting letters of interest for unexpired term
The Sayre Borough Council last week voted to accept the resignation of councilman William Hickey from his position.
Hickey, who was in the final year of his term on the council, cited health issues as the reason for his resignation, which took effect immediately.
Prior to serving on the borough council, Hickey was a county commissioner and served as borough mayor. Now retired, Hickey, a lifelong borough resident, previously worked as vice president and branch manager of First National Bank of Sayre and served as business manager of the Sayre Area School District. Hickey has also served for 35 years on the Healthcare Facilities Authority of Sayre.
In June of last year, the Sayre Police Department's new headquarters on Hayden Street was named the William J. Hickey building in his honor.
Letters of interest from borough residents interested in serving the remainder of Hickey's term on the council will be accepted until March 8 at the borough hall.
