A motor vehicle accident on state Route 287 at Bradshaw Road in Tioga Township, Tioga County, claimed the life of a Lawrenceville, Pa., teen, according to state police at Mansfield.

Eric Michael Thompson, 18, of Lawrenceville, Pa., died in the accident, which happened at around 12:15 p.m. on Friday, police said in a press release that they issued on Friday.

The accident occurred as Thompson, operating a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, and Tyler William Foster, 27, of Tioga, Pa., operating a 2008 Ford F-350, were both traveling south on state Route 287, police said. Thompson pulled his vehicle onto the west berm and then immediately attempted a U-turn across state Route 287 and Foster's vehicle struck Thompson's while it was broadside in the travel lanes, police said.

Foster's vehicle had enough momentum to push Thompson's vehicle across both lanes of travel and off the east berm, where both vehicles came to rest, police said.

Foster was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, police said, and was not injured in the crash. It was unknown whether Thompson was wearing a seat belt, the press release stated.
