HARRISBURG - State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) and Representative Garth Everett (R-84) will join the State Civil Service Commission to host a free 'Employment Outreach Event' for area veterans and their spouses from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. The two-part session will take place at the C.E. McCall Middle School, located at 600 Willow Street, Montoursville.

The event includes two identical group presentations beginning at 9 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. that will provide information on Commonwealth employment opportunities; veterans' preference; and the civil service application, testing, and hiring processes. Recruiters will be available to provide individual employment counseling sessions to interested attendees. As a result, veterans are encouraged to bring detailed resumes to this event.

"Veterans of every branch of service offer a variety of skills that make them valuable assets to employers in our area," Yaw said. "As veterans ourselves, Rep. Everett and I are honored to join together with the State Civil Service Commission to provide a personal approach where each veteran seeking employment receives dedicated, one-on-one assistance from recruiters."

"This free program can help ease the transition into civilian life for our service men and women," Rep. Everett added. "It will ensure that they have the opportunity to enjoy the very freedoms which they so bravely fought to protect."

Following each of the group presentations, recruitment specialists will be on hand to meet individually with attendees to provide a review of their resumes, discuss their employment interests and give basic counseling as to next steps the jobs seeker may wish to take.

"This is an excellent event that will offer our military men and women the ability to cut through the red tape of job hunting and receive individualized assistance," Yaw added. "Rep. Everett and I are pleased to partner with the commission to offer this important program."
