TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. - In a press release received by Senator Tom Libous (R-52) recently he described the second week in January was a big week for natural gas drilling. According to Libous, the Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) comment period on the draft SGEIS and the proposed regulations to permit and monitor environmentally safe gas drilling ended on Jan. 11.

Libous hosted a group of representatives of the Joint Landowners' Coalitions and business and labor leaders at a press conference with the more than 10,000 letters that they were being delivered to DEC, urging them to DEC to move forward. Libous added that DEC reported more than 20,000 comments received on the drafts.

"I'm excited that so many people weighed in on the topic," said Libous. He added, "Now, it's time for the experts to read those comments and see if they make sense."
