Man identified who was killed in Waverly house fire
The man who died as a result of a house fire on Friday in Waverly, N.Y., was 22-year-old Jordan M. Brown, Waverly police said on Saturday.
Brown was removed unconscious by firefighters from his residence, which is located at 7 Ithaca St., in Waverly, N.Y., said Jeff Wheeler, first assistant chief of the Waverly-Barton Fire Department.
Brown died at the scene, said Bradford County Coroner Thomas Carman, who had discussed the case with a Tioga County coroner, Stuart Bennett.
Brown had been trapped in the first floor apartment, which is where he lived, Wheeler said.
Firefighters had been dispatched to the fully-involved house fire at 7 Ithaca St. at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Wheeler had said.
The house, which contained two apartments, was destroyed by the fire.
Two people jumped from a second-floor window to safety. Waverly Police Sgt. Mark Mitchell said Saturday that he did not have the names at hand of the people who jumped.
The two who jumped were transported to Robert Packer Hospital. Wheeler said he did not know the extent of their injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Tioga County Fire Coordinator John Scott said Saturday.
An autopsy was completed on Brown Friday afternoon at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, N.Y.
Bennett referred questions about the case to the Waverly police.
