FRANKLINDALE - A man was transported by an emergency medical helicopter to a hospital after the ATV he was riding overturned Thursday in Franklin Township, the Franklindale fire chief said.

The accident occurred in a private yard off of Dogwood Lane, which is a driveway on Southside Road, Franklindale Fire Chief Donald Stranger Sr. said.

The incline that the ATV was riding on, as well as some rocks, might have contributed to the vehicle flipping over. The man was not riding on a trail at the time of the crash, he said.

The man, who might have been around 40 years old, was not wearing a helmet, Stranger said. He was alone on the vehicle.

An initial report from the scene stated that the man was "unresponsive."

Stranger said he was not really sure of the man's identity.

The accident was reported at 8:22 p.m.

It occurred about a mile from Franklindale, according to a report on a police scanner.

Stranger said that, as far as he knew, the man was transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

The man was transported by ambulance from the scene to the helicopter, which had landed less than a quarter-mile away, Stranger said.
