Mansfield University dedicates new residence halls

Mansfield University's new residence halls, Oak and Hickory Manor, were officially dedicated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, February 22

Representatives of the Mansfield Auxiliary Corporation (MAC) and Mansfield University gathered with students and staff, representatives of state, county and borough government, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and many others for the ceremony.

"We are extremely pleased to be dedicating these residence halls," MAC President David Cummings said. "We feel as though the students living here will have a

living experience unmatched by any others in the State System."

Cummings thanked the members of the MAC Board for volunteering countless hours of dedication to the project. MAC is a 501(c)3 limited liability corporation

comprised of Mansfield area business leaders and ex-officio members of the MU adminstration. State Representative Matt Baker was among those praising the MAC Board and all involved in creating the first new student housing at Mansfield since 1976.

"This public-private collaboration and partnership is outstanding and I want to congratulate everyone on a job well done." Baker said. "I'm really honored to be a Mountie, especially on days like this," Student Government Association President Thomas Thornton told the gathering. "We have everyone coming together and working together for a common goal, the benefit of our students.

"This is a great day for Mansfield University," Interim President Allan Golden said. "These two residence halls are beautiful and an important step in the revitalization of the university.

The two new residence halls welcomed nearly 600 students last month. The $38 million dollar project, financed by MAC in cooperation with MU, is the first of a

three phase project to replace all residence halls on campus. MAC has contracted with the University to oversee the daily operation of the new residence halls.

Plans call for construction of phase two of the project to begin this summer.
