This year is the 175th anniversary of the Towanda First United Methodist Church. They have decided to celebrate this on the weekend of April 20, with music as the focus of the celebration.

A music major before he entered the ministry, Pastor Jim Hollister and the anniversary committee contacted Cherilyn Ayres to do some type of musical program for them. Ayres, employed by the church as organist and choir director, and well known in the area for her leadership of the Cobblestones, was a natural choice.

"Naturally what came to mind was my piano partner Maximillian Esmus," said Ayres.

Ayres and Esmus have been doing piano duets together for the last 10 years or so. They did a lot of shows that they called "Max and Me" and thoroughly enjoyed working together.

So, there will be more "Max and Me" at the Towanda First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Towanda at 3 p.m. today. They will be doing a movement from a Mozart symphony, other religious duets with piano and synthesizer, and Latin duets with percussion help from Dave Loomis. Max will do a solo on piano and organ. Pastor Jim will do two solos arranged by Mark Hayes. Two former Cobblestones - Kevin Malmrose and Cathleen Evangelista - will perform solos. And to top it off, the church choir will perform two numbers.

All are welcome to attend this great musical celebration. There is something for everyone. And as most people remember Cherilyn Ayres, music is right up her alley! As she put it, "That's all I am!"
