Monroeton man attends Super Bowl
Local man attends big sporting event
While countless area football fans watched the New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots on their televisions during Super Bowl XLVI, one local resident had the opportunity of a lifetime - to watch the game live.
Keith Lamphere of Monroeton spent the weekend in Indianapolis, Ind., and watched the Super Bowl from his seat at Lucas Oil Stadium. Lamphere, owner of Lamphere's Truck Parts, won a ticket to the game through a sales contest held by Meritor, a parts company with which he does business.
While not a fan of either the Giants or Patriots, Lamphere said he couldn't pass up the opportunity to attend one of the nation's most popular sporting events at almost no cost. In addition to a lower-level ticket to the game, Lamphere's prize package covered a hotel stay and transportation.
"I'd be foolish not to go," he said.
Lamphere said the action-packed game felt faster live than in past years, when he'd watched it on television. He said he also enjoyed a close-up view of the halftime show, which this year featured Madonna.
Lamphere also received admission to the NFL Experience, an interactive event held prior to the game at the nearby Indiana Convention Center. The event featured plenty of football-related activities for football fans young and old to enjoy, including games, displays, attractions and autograph sessions.
Football clinics for children were also held, Lamphere said. Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers and Dwight Freeney of the Indianapolis Colts were among the players throwing footballs to children, he said. Lamphere also attended a live auction in which football memorabilia, much of it signed, was offered.
Lamphere also met several football stars, including Dan Gronkowski of the Cleveland Browns, whose brother, Rob, played in this year's game as a New England Patriot. Lamphere also attended a presentation from guest speaker Rod Woodson, a former player and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The trip "was quite an experience," he said.
