Motorcycle Club makes a stop in Nichols during Annual Brothers Lost Run
NICHOLS, N.Y. - Nichols, N.Y. was a busy place on Saturday, June 2, 2012. Besides the Community Care Network of Nichols having its annual Hiking for Helping Hands walk, the Boy Scouts were having their annual community yard sale. Then there were the motorcycles. Lots of motorcycles. It was the 19th Annual Brothers Lost Run held by the Vestal Center Motorcycle Club (VCMC), which makes a stop in Nichols every year as they run 'around the horn.'
This year's run was to honor Phil Harris and Al Smith, two members lost during the last year. The Railroad Station Bar and Grill opened its doors to the bikers, offering free hamburgers and hotdogs to the riders. "They stop in the area every year," Railroad Station Bar and Grill owner Tammy Chambers said, "there were over 200 bikes this year."
The bikers were a welcome influx for Chambers, as she is still planning the Grand Opening party for the Station on June 16. She said that local band Agony Hill will be playing at the Grand Opening party, and that there will be giveaways of hats and T-shirts, as well as other goodies. Chambers said that there will be entertainment every weekend, disc jockeys and sometimes bands.
Bartender Nicole Landis said that the bikers are always a good crowd. She and Chambers have worked in the tavern industry for several years. "It's for a good cause," Landis said about the VCMC Brothers Lost Run, "and I can't wait for them to come back next year. It's a nice thing, and draws all kinds of people from all kinds of places. The guys and girls were very nice and they didn't leave a mess. There's no garbage on the ground outside."
Chambers agreed that she too was excited for the return of the bikes next year. "They were very appreciative of the free food," Chambers said, "and we're going to make a bulletin board with pictures from this year's ride, and hope to add more pictures next year." The food is what Chambers hopes will keep regular customers coming back to the Station for more, especially her Loaded Fries. "You can go anywhere and get fried food. It's good food, not regular bar food," Landis added about the menu at the Railroad Station Bar and Grill.
The Railroad Station Bar and Grill is open every day, and is located on North Main Street in Nichols, N.Y.
