Bradford County's Private Silas Gore Camp No. 141 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War announced ceremonies dedicating seven new headstones for Civil War Soldiers buried in the county. The services are slated for 10 a.m. Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Rome Cemetery. Four Civil War soldiers graves will be dedicated there.
Immediately following these observances, the participants will move to LeRaysville's Cemetery and honor three more Civil War soldiers. Following is a listing of the soldiers to receive these honors.
Rome: Charles M. Morey, Commissary Sergeant, Co. D, 141st PA INF (previously unmarked); Daniel S. Boardman, Sergeant, Co. A, 42nd PA INF (previously unmarked); Peter Layton, Private, Co. I, 141st PA INF; Henry D. Beeman, Private, Co. G, 15th NY ENG.
LeRaysville: Edward G. Williams, Private, Co. A, 50th PA INF (KIA 2nd Bull Run); William Bramblee, Private, Co. A, 57th PA INF; Joshua G. Spicer, Musician, Co. C, 137th NY INF.
Joining in this worthy endeavor will be the members of the local 141st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry reenacting group as well as members of the 137th New York Volunteer Infantry. They will serve as honor guard and fire volley salutes befitting the occasion.
Descendents and members of the public are encouraged to attend this dignified event.
