TROY - With one snip of a long, red ribbon, the new Troy branch location of Guthrie Federal Credit Union (GFCU) officially opened for business.

This week, the branch held a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony, the final results of months of construction.

The new branch is located at 454 Canton Street in Troy, PA (right next to the U.S. Post Office on Route 14).

It was a celebratory time with free refreshments, photos of the construction project on display, and prizes ready to be given away. "A Place You Belong," was the message above the clerks' counter.

"We're really looking forward to this facility to grow our assets," said John A. Savelli, president/CEO of GFCU.

Looking back, Savelli noted that ground was broken for the project on Oct. 26, 2011, and it came in on budget and on time.

Savelli said he hoped that the new branch would make a "big impact" on its members.

According to Savelli, the new branch location has state-of-the-art equipment and "the same look and feel" of the Sayre GFCU location.

At the old location just down the street, it was difficult for members to back out onto the street, he said.

"We're excited to be here for the borough of Troy," he said. "It should be a big improvement, and we're looking forward to serving them with this facility and helping them meet their financial needs."

He thanked Jeff Heath, who was the clerk of the works for the project; G. Webster Contracting, which was the general contractor; and Larson Design, which did the architectural work.

The grand opening celebration continues today, June 29, with a free community pig roast from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
