A small fire broke out late Monday morning at the future site of Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel on Route 6 in Wysox. According to Wysox Fire Company first assistant chief Tracy Gowin, the fire was extinguished by the time emergency personnel arrived on scene at approximately 11:49 a.m.. Chemical fire retardant was spotted by Gowin after arriving on scene, suggesting someone inside extinguished the blaze quickly.

The fire originated from the heating and cooling system in one of the rooms at the hotel, Gowin said. The only damage sustained during the fire was to the heating and cooling unit which caught fire. Wysox Volunteer EMS assisted on scene.
