A Bucks County man was pronounced dead at Troy Community Hospital following a two-car motor vehicle accident Wednesday night in Canton Township.

Colby M. Swartley, 24, of Perkasie, had been transported from the scene of the Route 14 accident by Western Alliance Ambulance with a life-threatening injury, according to information from state police at Towanda.

Police said a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse operated by Swartley traveled off the west side of Route 14 just before Newell Road at about 6:13 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle then spun counter-clockwise and traveled across the southbound lane into the northbound lane, police said.

The Mitsubishi then struck the guardrail on the east side of the roadway and was struck by a northbound Freightliner Columbia truck tractor towing a Fontaine flatbed trailer, police said.

The driver of the truck, David E. Boyer, 34, of Millmont, Pa., was not injured, police said.

Swartley was trapped and had to be extricated from his vehicle, according to a report in Thursday's newspaper. Police said the airbag in Swartley's vehicle deployed, and both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene, police said.

The Canton Volunteer Fire Department, Western Alliance Ambulance, Fulmer's Garage and Canton Auto Body assisted at the scene, police said.
