A Gillett man was killed Tuesday afternoon when a pickup truck he was a passenger in traveled down an embankment in Sayre.

Thomas Warren Walker, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Bradford County coroner Tom Carman. The cause of death is still under investigation pending further examination, Carman said.

The small pickup truck crossed a curb across from the intersection of Ellistown Road and Cayuta Street at about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday and traveled between 50 and 60 feet down a steep, wooded embankment, landing on its top, said Sayre fire chief Tom Yonkin.

Walker, the front seat passenger, had been wearing a seatbelt, Carman said.

Greater Valley EMS transported the driver of the truck and another passenger to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for injuries of unknown severity.

Firefighters cut two trees down in order to retrieve the car, Yonkin said. The department also provided ropes for rescue crews to travel down the embankment and were at the scene for about two and a half hours, Yonkin said.

The Sayre Police Department, Greater Valley EMS and Rescue and Huckle's Towing also assisted at the scene. Sayre police said they could not release information on the accident Tuesday.
