PennDOT posting weight restriction on bridge in New Albany

The bridge carrying New Albany-Wyalusing Road (state Route 2010) over the South Branch of Towanda Creek in New Albany Borough is being posted with a weight restriction of 16 tons and "bridge limited to one truck at a time" effective immediately, according to a press release from PennDOT.

The release continues:

The bridge has been experiencing significant damage to its deck due to a high volume of heavy-truck traffic.

The steel I-beam, one-span bridge was built in 1939.

Signs alerting motorists to the weight restrictions will be erected today at and in advance of the bridge.

Motorists are further advised that local exemptions, that is, those who have posted a bond to travel a posted road, are not exempt from bridge postings. They would be required to obtain a separate bridge permit to travel over a posted bridge.

Are the gas companies going to replace the deck, or does PennDOT have to use taxpayer money here?
