Sayre resident Melissa Post has announced her candidacy for a seat on the borough council in the November election.

Post has filed nomination papers with the Bradford County Board of Elections seeking a spot on the ballot as an Independent for Sayre.

"This community faces many challenges and opportunities in the months ahead," Post said. "It's an exciting time to help move Sayre forward as a vibrant, desirable place both to live and do business. I feel that the people of Sayre deserve an independent voice on the borough council that can help foster an attitude of cooperation and work toward common-sense approaches to issues the community faces."

Post served as publicity and community outreach officer on the borough shade tree commission from Nov. 2006 until earlier this year. She has also served as judge of elections in Sayre's Fourth Ward until May of this year.

"I'm excited about the possibility of continuing my service to the people of Sayre in a new capacity," Post said. "I would be honored if voters would see fit to choose me to be their representative on the council."

Post graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications. She is a clinical documentation integrity specialist with Nuance Healthcare and is on the faculty of the Department of Health Information Technology at Broome Community College.

Post and her husband Dave have resided in Sayre for over nine years.
