A home on May Hill Road in Ridgebury Township was destroyed by fire late Tuesday night.

Ridgebury Township Assistant Chief Glen Leonard said two people, a man and a woman, were at home at the time of the fire, and they were being treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

He said another assistant chief with the fire department, Kevin Chapman, was driving by on his way home and saw the fire. A man was outside the residence, and Chapman brought the woman out of the house and assisted the man. He said it was the Ernie Baker residence.

The cause of the fire and where it started in the structure wasn't known late Tuesday. An attached garage and a shed out back were also destroyed, Leonard said.

He said about 30 firefighters were on the scene from Ridgebury Township, Wellsburg, East Smithfield, and South Creek fire departments.
