Mark your calendar for Saturday, Dec. 12; the Sayre Public Library is hosting a 1930s-style Christmas party for children.
The theme of the party is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It was 1939 when the book was written by Robert May. The party will transport the children back to the 1930s with stories and crafts reflective of the Great Depression era. In the 1930s, children often found an orange along with a candy cane in their Christmas stocking. Step back into time for some old-fashioned holiday fun, stories, and crafts.
Children 4 years old through elementary school and their parents are invited to attend this free program. The program begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 12:30 p.m. This program is in conjunction with The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. Attendees will receive prizes and giveaways related to reading and the 1930s.
Sayre Public Library's Teen Advisory Council will host a book sale at the library during the Rudolph party. The sale will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will support young adult programming at the library.
The Sayre Public Library has been providing outstanding service to Sayre Borough since 1936. Please note, although the program is free and open to the public, space is limited to 50 and registration is suggested. Register at the library or call (570) 888-2256. The library is located at 122 S. Elmer Ave. Sayre Public Library is a Bradford County United Way recipient agency.
