Salvation Army announces holiday season signup
SAYRE - The Salvation Army, located at 314 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre, is getting ready for a big holiday season. With preliminary work already taking place for the annual Thanksgiving dinner held the night before Thanksgiving at the Church of the Redeemer, at 201 S. Wilbur Ave. Sayre, work is also being put in daily to make sure that residents understand the sign up process for food baskets and Christmas toys.
"We're starting the busy season right now," said Capt. Debra Stedman. "We're announcing dates and times for those who need assistance to stop by and formally get all the paper work finished well ahead of the actual holiday pickup and distribution dates.
Daytime signups for food baskets and toys for children ages birth to 12 years old will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 through 25 and Nov. 4 through 7, with the food pantry temporarily closed during this time. Applications for toys and food will also be accepted during the evening hours of 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 30, and also Nov. 1 and 8, for those who work and can only sign up after hours.
Adults are reminded that they need to bring a photo ID, birth certificates for all children, proof of residency and proof of income (budget letter, child support, pay stubs, etc.) Proof of expenses (rent, gas, electric bill, etc.) will also be necessary.
Capt. Stedman asks that parents please do not bring any children to the sign up procedure. More information is available at (570) 888-2153.
