Can you feel the excitement in the air? Mark your calendars - save the date. You won't want to miss the sixth Annual First Friday Christmas Parade which takes place this year on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 in downtown Towanda.

The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. along Main Street. Local business owners will provide your family an opportunity for store sales, activities and dining experiences. Come out early and see what is in store for you. The parade starts at 7 p.m. from Elm Street and will continue down to Elizabeth Street.

If you or your organization, business, school, club or church would like to join the parade, please contact Patricia Hoover at (570) 250-0703; or send an email to Prizes will be awarded for the best floats and first place will award $250, with second and third place too. We are asking our local fire departments and emergency response teams to come all decked out in their lights this year with prizes to be awarded for the top performers. First prize will be $250, with second and third place too. If you want to join the parade, contact Pat to get your floats and vehicles registered.

Santa's Second String Reindeer will be making an appearance again this year - thank you to our sponsor Hunt Engineers, Architects & Land Surveyors. This has always been a highlight for the young and old to see "live" reindeer up close. Santa will have a special place this year inside Santa's Workshop at Ben Franklin Crafts. Each child who stays and visits with Santa will be eligible to win a bicycle this year. But, they must visit with Santa in order to enter their name in the drawing. Bikes will be given to one girl and one boy in four different age categories. If your business is interested in sponsoring a donated bicycle, please contact Sue Williams at 570-265-2179 or email

We welcome your participation in helping to prepare a float or donating to the parade. We want this to be a parade that you and your children will cherish in your memories from year to year. You won't want to miss it.
