Sayre house fire was caused by electrical short

The fire on Thursday that left a Sayre family homeless was caused by an electrical problem, the Sayre fire chief said on Sunday.

However, investigators are still trying to determine more specifically how the fire started, Sayre Fire Chief Thomas Yonkin said.

"We just know that it was caused by an electrical short," Yonkin said.

The fire started in the kitchen of a two-story house, which was the residence of Chuck and Shannon Reid and their two children, he said.

The blaze severely damaged the house, which is located at 128 Hoover St., he said.

No one was home when the fire broke out. The fire was reported at 12:17 p.m. on Thursday.
