A Sayre salon will hold a fundraiser for the employees of Howie's Pizza and Subs temporarily out of work after a fire destroyed the business last month.
The owners of Image Salon, Molly Harvey and Caci Silkman, decided to organize a fundraiser called "Haircuts for Howie's" as a way to return the favor to a community that helped them when their salon was flooded last year in Athens. "When this happened, we wanted to give back," Harvey said.
Harvey said she and Silkman wanted to do something to help the over 20 employees affected by the fire, including several with children, as the holiday season and colder weather arrive.
The salon, which recently reopened on West Lockhart Street in Sayre, will donate 100 percent of proceeds from haircuts Dec. 15 to the employees, Harvey said.
Haircuts will be $15 for women and $10 for men. The price includes a wash, cut and style, Harvey said. Other stylists, including Lisa Tobey from Mane Designs in Sayre, will be coming to lend a hand, she said. Café Too has also donated cookies and coffee for the event.
Those who don't want a haircut are still welcome to drop by with donations, Harvey said.
The salon will take appointments and walk-ins from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day, she said. To make an appointment or for more information, call the salon at (570) 731-4551.
