OWEGO - Thirty-two nonprofit organizations in Tioga County have received grants totaling $60,350 from Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation (TCSCF). The competitive grants were awarded in the 2013 grant cycle following reviews by the foundation's grant committee. Grants from TCSCF are made annually to organizations that serve the needs and interests of senior citizens in Tioga County, New York.

Grants up to $400 were awarded to libraries and senior citizen clubs. In addition the following organizations received grants:

Alzheimer's Association, Central NY Chapter, for training programs in Tioga County.

Candor Community Chorus toward music, insurance and/or stipends for director and accompanist.

Catholic Charities' Tompkins/Tioga Outreach for emergency assistance for seniors.

Community Care Network of Nichols (CCNN) toward insurance, mileage for volunteers and/or program materials and support.

Family Enrichment Network toward the Kinship Program in Tioga County.

Kirby Band for new music.

Newark Valley Historical Society for a vacuum, a table and chairs for the Depot.

Northern Tioga Neighbors Network (NTNN) toward volunteer support services and program and personnel development.

Susquehanna River Archaeological Center (SRAC) toward programs geared toward the senior community.

Ti-Ahwaga Community Players for devices and technology to assist the hearing impaired in better enjoying productions.

Tioga Acting Guild to help make it more affordable for senior citizens to attend productions.

Tioga County Council on the Arts toward the costs of the newsletter FOCUS and the "Always on Sunday" concert series.

Tioga County Neighbors Helping Neighbors to help spread the Neighbors Helping Neighbors effort into the Candor area.

Tioga County Open Door Mission toward emergency assistance to the elderly such as food, transport, utilities, home and auto repairs.

Tioga County Rural Ministry toward emergency assistance to the elderly such as food, transport, utilities, home and auto repairs.

Tioga Opportunities, Inc. Department of Aging toward mileage reimbursement for volunteer drivers for the Meals on Wheels program, Personal Emergency Response Program costs, activities and newsletter.

Tioga Opportunities, Inc. to purchase food for the food pantries and soup kitchens in the county.

Tioga Opportunities, Inc. to offset the cost of materials to repair and paint homes for the elderly, with labor done in the summers by youth volunteers.

Since its formation in 1982, Senior Citizens Foundation has given more than $1.7 million to benefit Tioga County's senior citizens. A volunteer board directs the organization.

TCSCF actively seeks and gratefully accepts tax-exempt contributions and bequests to further its work.
