Service of Remembrance to be held at J.E. Hallett Fire Company in Waverly
There will be a brief service of remembrance at the J. E. Hallett Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 of the Waverly Barton Fire District on Saturday, Sept. 11. The service will honor and remember all the victims of the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001 including fire service personnel, law enforcement, civilians, and families of all who were lost in the attack on the World Trade Center, in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Va. and the crash-site in Shanksville, Pa.
The public is invited to join members of the Fire Department at 9:45 a.m. The service will start promptly at 9:58 a.m., and at 9:59 a.m. the fire department will sound the whistle commemorating the time of the South Tower collapse. This will be followed by a time of silence.
Rev. Dr. Cynthia Huling Hummel, the Chaplain for the fire department will lead the gathering in a time of prayer and will share a brief message. Members of the fire department will share in the readings. AJ Satterly will play taps. The memorial benches in honor and remembrance of Orin Barrett will also be dedicated during the service, and fire, EMS and law enforcement personnel are encouraged to come in uniform.
The fire department is located on Donnelly Parkway in Waverly, N.Y. Also, local churches are encouraged to ring their bells at 9:59 a.m. as part of remembrance. For additional information, call the fire house at (607) 565-4651 or call Pastor Cynthia at (607) 565-4034.
