TROY - For the owners of Shaw's Furniture, Troy "hit the spot" in their effort to find a location for a second store.

Recently, Shaw's held a soft opening for the new store, located in the former Edgewood's Restaurant in Troy. A grand opening for the store is scheduled for Veterans Day, with giveaways, food and a ribbon cutting.

Mark Shaw, who owns the business, with his wife, Reva, said Troy appealed to them for several reasons.

He noted that Troy "covers a lot of area," and is right at the intersection of routes 6 and 14.

"We kind of mapped things out to see what would be a good area, and it hit the spot," he said.

In addition, they saw a need for a furniture store in Troy, which has been without one for some time.

"There was nothing there, so we figured we were doing so well in Monroeton, we decided we would try to add a second location," he said.

They also live in the Troy area, in Columbia Cross Roads.

"Until the grand opening, we will have very good inventory, but by the grand opening we will be fully stocked," Mark Shaw noted.

The new Troy store is located at 620 Elmira St. in Troy.

Customers can shop for living room groups, dining room groups, bedroom groups, a full line of Serta mattresses (iComfort and iSeries), other premium mattresses, barstools, desks, curios, and much more in the nearly 15,000 square feet of showroom.

Also, the store features Shaw's Lancaster Experience, with 100 percent Amish-made furniture, which Shaw's hand-selects from the Amish. This includes white cedar log furniture, hickory, and pine furniture.

"The people in Troy just welcomed us with open arms literally," Mark Shaw said. "It's just amazing. We're almost overwhelmed with it, is the word I guess. All the business people said, 'welcome to Troy,' and offered to help, do anything."

"We would just like to really thank our family, friends, church family, and employees for supporting our new venture," he continued. "It was a lot of work and effort to get where we are now, but with all that help, it was a smooth transition."

He thanked his father, William Shaw, who started the family's furniture business in 1982 in Monroeton with Manufacturer's Furniture Outlet.

The new Troy store features free local delivery and a Furniture Club, which works like a Christmas Club.

The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday.

The store can be reached by phone by calling 570-297-1213.

The original Shaw's Furniture store is located at 273 Shaw Blvd., Monroeton.
