Montoursville - Here's an update on the slide along Route 1043 (Sheshequin Road) in the Sheshequin Narrows of Bradford County.

PennDOT engineers and geotechnical experts have examined the slide and determined that it is too unstable to reopen the road.

For the safety of the traveling public, the road will remain closed and the detour using Ridge Road and Orange Hill Road will remain in effect, long-term.

Meanwhile, PennDOT engineers are advancing the schedule for a multi-million dollar soil-slide-repair project at that location to be under construction in 2014.

PennDOT will schedule a meeting with the municipalities to discuss the project scope, schedule and impacts.

The slide is located along the southbound lane about one mile north of the intersection with Ridge Road in Sheshequin Township. The slide has taken part of a retaining wall and the roadway shoulder to the edge of the pavement. It is just north of the pull-off overlooking Tioga Point.
