CANTON - There was more than spaghetti to enjoy at the Canton Volunteer Fire Department's monthly supper Thursday.

People also could savor the renovations at the Canton Fireman's Social Hall.

The hall's new look was unveiled for the public at the supper.

Barb and Jim Bailey are regulars at the fire department's suppers, and they liked the new look.

"It looks really wonderful," said Barb Bailey. "It looks great."

They thought all the changes really brightened things up at the social hall.

Fire Department President Rich Bardo explained that the fire department did a complete renovation on the inside of the social hall.

According to Bardo, the social hall features new kitchen cabinets and flooring. In addition, all the walls throughout the whole building as well as the bathrooms have been redone.

There's also new sidewalks out front and a new digital sign.

"To me, it's a lot lighter," said Kathy Turner, who was also dining. She liked the softer colors of the walls.

Abbie Bardo showed off the renovations made to the women's restroom.

She thought it was "very nice looking."

"I think it's a lot more sanitary, clean," she said.

She noted that a baby changing station is in the works for the women's restroom. With a young child herself, she was looking forward to this.

Jodie Bardo, who was helping out with serving the suppers, said, "everybody is talking about how nice everything looks."

She thought it was much easier to work in the kitchen with the renovations.

"It's very good," she said. "Everything is great. We couldn't be happier."

The supper was held to raise money to build a new bathroom at fire police member Ruth Probst's residence with a handicapped accessible shower to accommodate her needs.

She's been with the fire department for 20-plus years.

She said that she was seeing the renovations for the first time.

Probst thought they made the building look nicer.
